What should I ask before my ultrasound appointment to be prepared?

Whether it’s your first appointment, or it’s been some time since your last one, you may be nervous about what to expect at your ultrasound. Here is a handy guide to help you ask the right questions and prepare for your ultrasound appointment ahead of your scan:

Why do I need an ultrasound?

Ultrasounds are a great way to meet your baby for the first time, but they go beyond that. Our scans can help investigate any symptoms you may be having during your pregnancy, or monitor any conditions: for example, if you are having a problem with your thyroid.

As the weeks go by, they’re also perfect for checking your baby’s health and development during the pregnancy. Most mothers have two routine ultrasounds, but are welcome to opt for more! Check-ups can ensure any potential issues are found and managed to ensure a healthy birth.

Which ultrasound is right for me?

Baby Smiles offers a range of bundles for different stages of your pregnancy, ranging from an initial transabdominal scan for early pregnancy dating, or if you want to take one last beautiful look at your baby before the birth around 25-36 weeks!

Like we covered in another blog, we also offer a range of 2D, 3D and 4D imaging depending on your wants and needs. With our technology, you can even see your baby in ultra-high-resolution 8K images, depending on the stage of your pregnancy. Give us a call on (706) 348-8654 and we can help you assess which scan is the most suitable for you and your baby.

What preparation is needed before my ultrasound?

If this is your first appointment, knowing what to wear may be confusing! We would suggest wearing comfortable clothes that allows us easy access for our scan, and for you to feel as relaxed as possible while you’re with us. Removing any jewelry or piercing you may have from the area we’ll be scanning ahead of time is also helpful.

Depending on the test, you may also need to drink a few glasses of water and hold off from going to the bathroom, as having a full bladder helps with the scan. Of course, we will advise you on what we need in advance of the scan!

What will happen during my ultrasound scan appointment?

This will also depend on the type of scan you need, but they typically last around 15-45 minutes. For example, an early pregnancy dating scan takes 15 minutes and is a transabdominal ultrasound.

Scans later in the pregnancy usually last a little longer as the baby’s features become more developed. The most common ultrasound is external - we’ll move a probe across your scan on the area being scanned to check on your baby.

Can I bring someone with me to my ultrasound appointment?

Absolutely - in fact, it’s encouraged! We want you to feel as comfortable as you can while you are in our studio, and having friends and family there to cherish the moment is the best way to enjoy the experience.

Come meet your new bundle of joy and relax in our cozy studio in Demorest, Georgia! We have the latest technologies to produce clear, real-life images of your precious baby, in a space designed to make you feel comfortable and welcome.
